Mistie Cook is a master’s prepared nurse who is board certified in pediatric nursing (CPN) and pediatric hematology/oncology (HemOnc) nursing (CPHON). With 21 years of HemOnc experience, she is the Quality/Research RNV for the Cancer and Blood Disorders Service Line at Arkansas Children's Hospital. She is the co-chair for the organization’s professional development council and is a member of the organization’s central line associated blood stream infection (CLABSI) leadership team. Mistie has been a member of the Association of Pediatric Hematology Oncology of Nursing (APHON) for several years now and sits as secretary for the Little Rock, Arkansas local chapter. She has worked with the HemOnc team to decrease their CLABSI infection rate to the lowest it has been in eight years, end an outbreak of C. Diff, and improve the department’s ranking with U.S. News and World Report. She has been involved in many quality initiative projects such as initiating ambulatory CLABSI cohort through Solutions for Patient Safety, implementing virtual reality distraction, adenosine triphosphate (APT) testing on high-touch surface areas, and education process changes for infusaport access.
