Registered Nurse
Rady Children's Hospital
Samantha graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BSN Nursing Degree. She has been a practicing Pediatric Hematology/Oncology nurse for 23 years at Rady Children's Hospital. She worked on the inpatient unit for her first 13 years where she gained experience in bone marrow transplant, charge nurse duties, complex acute care, and end of life care. Samantha became very passionate about end of life and palliative care and worked alongside the supportive care nurse coordinator. She was then inspired to become certified in pediatric palliative and hospice nursing. She then transferred to the outpatient Hematology/Oncology clinic. Here she gained knowledge in procedures, case management, triage, and eventually was hired to be the clinical palliative care nurse for the outpatient neuro/oncology patients. In this role Samantha works with the Palliative Care MD once a week and focuses solely on palliative and end of life care. She has been at this role for the past 8 years. The palliative care clinic is very collaborative with the Oncologists at Rady Children's Hospital, and they will often see other high- risk patients outside of neuro/oncology. Samantha maintains her certification in Pediatric Oncology Nursing as well as Pediatric Palliative and Hospice Nursing.
