Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center
Carolyn received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Baylor University’s School of Nursing in 2016 and has over 9 years of pediatric experience. She started her career at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, TX in general pediatrics. She began to learn EBP through a year-long residency where she completed a project on cap changes prior to blood culture draws in the ED with 2 of her fellow colleagues. She also helped start the nursing clinical ladder and grew a passion for helping fellow nurses develop their careers.
Carolyn worked as a travel nurse in both outpatient and inpatient settings before moving to New York City. Over the last few years, she has worked in various pediatric specialties, including Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital where she implemented her doctoral project on preventing peripheral IV infiltrates and extravasations, yielding a 22% decrease in the hospital. She presented this work at the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialist (NACNS) conference in 2023. Currently, Carolyn works as a Clinical Nurse Specialist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center after completing her DNP at Rush University.
Carolyn has also taught students in pediatrics, maternity, and EBP in both LPN and bachelor’s programs. She enjoys seeing new nurses grow in their confidence and skills. Carolyn is on the Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) Exam Committee through Pediatric Nursing Certification Board where she works on exam items and training nurses in item writing.
