Title: Leadership Strategies to Build Trust and Staff Satisfaction
Abstract : Employee dissatisfaction and low engagement scores among nightshift staff jeopardized team dynamics, retention, and quality patient care. Glint Survey results revealed an overall satisfaction score of 63 for nightshift team and leadership relationships in April 2024, underscoring these challenges. Guided by Richard P. Finnegan’s insights on employee engagement and stay interviews, leadership implemented strategies to build trust and strengthen relationships.
The purpose of this process change aimed to improve staff satisfaction and engagement by addressing incivility, fostering trust, and strengthening relationships with new leadership while creating a collaborative and supportive nightshift environment that promotes professional growth and a positive workplace culture.
Leadership addressed staff dissatisfaction and retention by focusing on nightshift needs with targeted strategies. Communication improved through director town hall meetings, monthly manager emails and staff meetings on nights and weekends. Quarterly one-on-one meetings and nightshift huddles promoted open dialogue and engagement. Stay interviews with new employees offered insights for improvement, and tailored education opportunities supported professional growth. Leadership visibility during night hours-built trust and collaboration, fostering a positive culture that enhanced morale, teamwork, and retention.
Enhancing communication through one-on-one conversations, stay interviews, and leadership engagement significantly boosted staff satisfaction and engagement. By October 2024, overall engagement scores rose to 79, with 20 of 21 survey questions showing positive gains, reflecting increased morale, trust, and collaboration among nightshift staff. These results highlight the value of targeted strategies like consistent communication, tailored interventions, and leadership visibility in fostering a cohesive and supportive work environment. The improvements demonstrate the critical role of focused efforts in retention, teamwork, and quality patient care.
Strengthening communication, fostering trust, and engaging staff through targeted initiatives significantly improved satisfaction and engagement. These findings highlight the importance of leadership-driven strategies in promoting retention, collaboration, and patient care quality.
